“Mother2Mother” is a durational performance that took place alongside an installation version of my animation film “In the Name of Love (Mami Got Things To Do)” during the opening weekend of the exhibition at Kunsthal Aarhus. At its center are my mothers, my collaborators, and the image and inspiration behind the film’s protagonist.

Rather than performing, they occupy the space as themselves. Their presence brings the film’s questions around motherhood into the exhibition space, while also making room for something often suppressed: the wish to be seen beyond the roles they have been given. Within patriarchal family structures, both have often been expected to care, support and remain in the background. Here, they take up space themselves.
